General Financial Grants Application Information
General Financial Grants are provided to cultural organizations, schools, training institutions, and other nonprofit entities that offer exemplary programs in one or more of the following priority areas:
- Pre-professional education and training programs for talented young artists from diverse backgrounds, primarily in the Los Angeles region.
- High-caliber professional training and mentoring that successfully advance the projects, skills and industry relationships of outstanding new filmmakers worldwide.
- Film preservation and archival programs with national and international significance.
- Major film retrospectives that showcase master works and prominent filmmakers of world cinema to advance knowledge and appreciation among diverse audiences, primarily in the Los Angeles area.
- Major programs and exhibitions that utilize film to ignite critical dialogue and promote global understanding. Priority is given to activities and events in the Los Angeles area.
- Projects that protect Hollywood’s rich motion picture history and recreate the early movie going experience for audiences.
Applications must include the following items:
1. General Financial Grant Application Form and Proposal Narrative (see link below for form),
2. Copy of organization’s most recent annual financial statement and IRS 990 filing for the prior fiscal year,
3. Copy of current 501c3 letter verifying nonprofit and foundation status,
4. List of Board of Directors with affiliations,
5. Resolution of the Board of Directors authorizing the submittal of the proposal.
Please submit two (2) copies of the completed application cover form and proposal narrative, and one (1) copy of the required attachments. You may also submit one (1) copy of any other items (brochures, videos, etc.) you feel may support your application.
General Financial Grant Proposal Narrative
Please prepare a proposal of no more than four pages, using at least 12-point font that provides answers to the following questions:
Request Statement: One sentence describing the proposed project including the grant amount requested, the project title, what will be accomplished, who will be served, and the geographic location. (This statement should also appear on the application cover page.)
Proposed Project Description: Describe the project or program for which HFPA support is requested. Please be brief while providing as much detail as possible. Be sure to define and estimate the number of people – including profile and geographic information – that will be served. Clarify the timetable for the grant, the expected impact of the project and why it is needed.
Organization Description: Briefly describe the organization’s mission, major services and programs, past record of accomplishments, and leadership and funding support. Include information about how the proposed project fits with or expands upon the organization’s goals.
Acknowledgements: Explain the manner in which the HFPA grant will be acknowledged. This should include, as appropriate, recognition in project and other publications, screening credits, and at funded and other selected events.
Project Budget: Describe the total budget for the project; how specifically the HFPA grant will be used and other sources of financial support. Explain how cost estimates for the major budget elements were determined. If this is an ongoing program, include your future funding plans. Include a numeric budget for the proposed project with a breakdown of anticipated costs for the total project and costs to be applied to the HFPA grant. Include information on administrative overhead cost and what will be charged to the HFPA grant, if any.
